Maakaup is a project that brings country produce to Tallinn once a week and distributes it at specific collection points.
Our main consumers are conscientious urban dwellers who seek local, wholesome produce.

There are two different models operating under the name Maakaup: Maakaup.com is a trading organisation, the main goal of which is to encourage the local consumption of basic produce.  Secondly, through our Maakaup Club, we encourage the development of small farm and handicraft enterprises in the countryside and offer marketing possibilities to farmers, regardless of the volume and regularity of the produce they can supply.

Within the Maakaup.com environment, there is a small Maakaup club, which is a non-profit organisation. Anyone can join the Maakaup club for free on condition that they agree to the rules of the club beforehand. One of the primary rules of the club is that the consumer agrees to consume the produce in whichever way they choose and at their own risk. Only members of the Maakaup Club can purchase produce (such as dairy, eggs, and meat) that cannot otherwise be sold through the maakaup.com environment.

The club’s mission is to offer farmers an opportunity to overcome some of the obstacles that halt their development. We would like to encourage farmers to make farm produce their main source of income. The way the operation works is that the Maakaup club supports small farmers with monetary donations; in return, the farmers give their unique farm produce to the club members as gifts. Through this, we increase the opportunities for start-up and small farmers to become more stable, larger enterprises. The activities of the Maakaup Club are voluntary and charity-based.
We also have an account open for donations that are used to support farmers in becoming certified producers.

To date, we have helped four farmers increase their income by providing farm produce. These farmers have also become certified producers and may now sell their produce to both members and non-members of the Maakaup Club.

We have found regular partners amongst farmers who grow their produce using little or no chemicals. We also organise visits to farms to see at first-hand their animals and how they grow their vegetables. This is a great opportunity to get to know farm life better, seeing as many urban people are now far removed from country life. Check for upcoming farm visits from the UPCOMING EVENTS section of our website.
